About Us

The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) is one of the largest fraternal organisations in the United Kingdom and around many parts of the world, including Australia.

The order started in 1822, and is known as "The Buffs" to members. Our Order provides aid to its members, their families, dependents of former members, and other charitable organisations.

History

The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes was founded nearly 200 years ago in August 1822, at the Harp Inn on Great Russell Street, opposite Drury Lane Theatre. Our founders were an “eccentric” young artist named Joseph Lisle and a comedian by the name of W. Sinnett.

Our Name

Originally, we were simply “the Buffaloes” with no “Royal” or “Antediluvian” ornaments. When we were founded nearly 200 years ago, we took our initial title from a popular song of the age called We'll Chase The Buffalo.

Join Us

Our aims are to come together for entertainment, whilst raising money and other benefits for charity. The only obligations on our members are to respect each other and to respect our traditions.
